Trip Introduction
The Chalung or Kula is a mountain in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir in the Ladakh region. Located in the Rupshu region in the Eastern Ladakh Chalung with 6546  m altitude the highest point in the north of the mountain range Thalda Kurmi. The peak is situated above Namshang La. It is known by both names. A first ascent of the Chalung succeeded on July 11, 1997, a Japanese expedition led by Tsunso Suziki over the northwest ridge.
After 2 -3 days of well acclimatizing and doing a pre summit trek from Rumbak to Stok via Stok La, we drive to remote area across high Tanglang la pass 5328m. Arriving at Tso Kar area inhabited during the summer by nomadic herders and by rare animals such as Blue sheep, Tibetan Antilope, wolf and kiang (wild ass) roam year-round. Setting off from here a less than a week  and crossing over 3 high passes we arrive at Korzok phu, one of the largest nomadic settlement in the region, we reach the Yalung Nau la Pass (5400m) where we get our first views of the 20-kilometre long Tso Morari. Before crossing of Yalung Naula pass we climb an easy Yalung Nong peak at 6050m, which doesn't required any crampons or rope or ice axe. “Mission accomplished. The first two days of trekking we did with Tenzing. The trek was very nice and very good to acclimatize. The trek the guide and others went with the carrier for back and passed us to set up camp. In the trek there was a mountain Yalung Nong 6080m, which was very good for acclimatization and with beautiful views. The 2 chefs did a good job on the whole tour. For example, after reaching the mountain, we had prepared tea with milk that made us recover quite well. The muleteer also did a good job. We are very happy with the team, as for the hotel in Leh, phenomenal."
