Kalihani Pass 4830 m Trek - 6 or 7 Days
Scenic route with peaceful camps, beautiful alpine meadows, Kalihani glacier & Lake
Located on Pir Panjal range and the extreme west of Manali, this Saurkundi pass 3950m and Khanpari lies at an altitude of 4025m, is one of the best and perfect spot to view Beas River valley at once. To the West lies Kalihani pass at an altitude of 4830m Connecting remote Bara Bangahal village of Kangra district. During summer to late Autumn, this area is mainly inhabited by Shepherds and this pass is frequently used by them to go rain shadow of high grassland. Apart from Shepherd's route, this area has one of the best trekking routes in the Manali region. Spectacular view of Great Himalayan Range and snow-clad peak rising above 6000m i.e. Indrasan 6220m, Deo Tibba 6001m to the East and Maker Beh 6068m, Shikar Beh 6200m to the North and looking down the beautiful Kullu valley are main characteristics of this trek.
Setting off from near Hadimba we climb gently through a thick forest of Cedar and Oak. Climbing up through the Manalsu River valley the gentle slopes and lush green meadows of Lamadugh appears. Later trek beneath the ridge of Khanpari Tibba (4,025m) we arrive at a place from where Indrasan (6,220m.) And Deo Tibba (6,001m.) peaks can be seen. One can see the full view of Manali town and upper Kullu valley. Continue going upward through brilliant shrubs of Rhododendron, Birch pave on the way, and wildflowers all around. Arriving at the dome of Khanpari to have a spectacular 360-degree view of the Great Himalayan Range to the East, Dhauladhar range to the West, and Pir-Panjal range to the North. Keep your attention towards wildlife to see Monal, Fox, and Bear.

Meals: All meal during the trek
Day 1: Manali (2040m) to Lamadug (3050m), 5 hrs.
Day 2: Trek to Khan Pari (4025m) – Riyali Thach (3300m). 5-6 hrs
Day 3: Trek to Base camp (4000m). 5-6 hrs
Day 4: Trek to Kalihani pass (4830m) - back to base 7-8 hrs
Day 5: Trek to Maylee Thach (3800m) - Longa Thach (3250m). 5-6 hrs
Day 6: Trek to Shangchar, 5 hrs, Drive to Manali.
Day 1- Manali (2040m) to Lamadug (3050m), 5 hrs.

Day 2 - Trek to Khan Pari (4025m) – Riyali Thach (3300m), 6-7 hrs.
Leaving camp trek through steep ridge below Khanpari Tibba (4,025m) we arrive at a place from where Indrasan (6,220m.) And Deo Tibba (6,001m.) peaks can be seen. One can see the full view of Manali town and upper Kullu valley. Continue going upward through brilliant shrubs of Rhododendro, Birch pave on the way and wild flowers all around. Arriving at just below Khanpari we follow the trail which is going eastern top of mountain, by the afternoon arrive at dome of Khanpari to have spectacular 360 degree view of Great Himalayan Range to the East, Dhauladhar to the West and Pir Panjal to the North. Descent along the ridge to campsite.
Day 3: Trek to Base camp (4000m). 5-6 hrs.
From Riyali we follow the trek in alpine forest until reaching a small stream, cross it and walk along the left side for few minutes. Continue stepping up where tree line finishes and you have a wonderful view of upper and lower Kullu valley. Overnight halt at Shangor base camp camp.
Day 4: Trek to Kalihani pass (4830m) - back to base - Riyali Thach 8- 9 hrs.
We climb steadily on a rocky path, along a snowy glacier climb moderate slope to the foot of the pass. Then climb over glacier is an interesting. Finally arrive at top of the Kalihani pass (4,830m). From here view around the major peaks of Kullu and Lahoul valley. Finally descent to base camp and continue to Riyali Thach.
Day 5: Trek to Maylee Thach (3800m) - Rani Sui Lake - Longa Thach (3250m). 5-6 hrs.
After breakfast we trek continue over open meadows and take a trail which leads to tiny lake called Ranisui. The trail climbs and descend along the ridge. The view toward east at the best in clear sky. Especially having Indrasan and Deo Tibba. We are always on a open meadows, crossing the pass continue descent to Longa Thach for overnight camp.
Day 6: Trek to Shangchar, 5 hrs, Drive to Manali.
Trail descend to Shangchar village through alpine forest where our jeep will be waiting for us here. We drive on link road to Manali.

Day pack: A bit of bigger size 30 - 40 liters in order to keep fleece, jacket, water bottle, camera, packed lunch
Foot wear :-
Good condition trekking boots – not new used before in your country side for best fit for trekking, water proof.
Camp shoes, light and comfortable as running shoes or sandal ( like Teva ) for river crossing. Its necessity for you to bring sandals for river crossing.
Socks both Woolen and cotton as desire.
Gore tex jacket or similar.
Down jacket/vest is good for cool evenings.
Wind/Rain jacket: (i.e. gore-tex, northface or similar) waterproof and breathable. Its necessity to have jacket while crossing passes.
Trekking pants, light, comfortable, water proof /breathable.
Long sleeve shirt Light weight dry-fast (for sun/insect protection).
Thermal innerwear winter thermal innerwear.
T-shirts for day time.
One mid weight/heavyweight fleece (long sleeve) jacket or warm pullover.
Short pants, underwear.
Sun Hat: cowboy style or baseball style to protect skin from direct sunlight.
Woolen cap for high altitude or while crossing pass or during evenings in camp.
One fleece or sweatpants for cold evenings during dining.
A pair of Hand gloves or woolen gloves.
Scarf to protect from dust or sunlight around neck. This is available in local markets with variety of colors.
Sun glasses with UV protection. An extra sun glass in case to replace.
Sun screen and lip protection.
Moisturizer cream: In Ladakh the air is dry and sun is harsh and strong during day. There are local moisturizer cream available in market. To avoid somehow skin allergy bring your personal cream.
Water bottle. Minimum I - 2 liter.
Trekking poles or sticks. If you have your own folded poles.
Torch or one head lamp with extra batteries. Petzl or similar.
One toiletries kit, small towel.
Reading and writing materials.
Digital Camera or digital video recorder / solar charger.
Water purification tablets.
Nylon or water proof plastic bags to storage clothes and stuff.
One pocket knife light.
Gaiter / personal climbing gear. (Can rent at Manali or Leh or Uttarkashi).
Water purification/filter: we boil water for you in the camp, what its essential you to have a water purification tablets or filter during the day of trekking.
Mosquito repellent cream.
First aid kit: We carry basic first aid kit with diamox, aspirin, paracetamol, antibiotics for diarrhea, antiseptic, bandage and band aids, Please you bring your personal first aid kit with medicine you think to need necessity for you.
Vitamin tablets or similar.
Extra passport photos.
